LOT: Firestorm

More Legends of Tomorrow stuff. This time Firestorm: equal parts Martin Stein and Jefferson Jackson. The show gives the two of them this neat little "High-Five of Power" that sounds corny but actually looks pretty cool on screen. Stein is another of my favorites on the show. While he can come across as a stuffy, arrogant, intellectual he has a strong moral center that is tempered by experience and a rational, analytical mind.
Jax took me a little longer to warm up to but I think over the course of two seasons his character has really developed well, from "Tag Along Kid" to valued team member. He's the ship's mechanic, as well as the physical half of Firestorm. Strong willed and blunt but very team oriented he's the perfect counterpart to Stein.

The Firestorm costume is hard to draw and anyway they only wear it when they are fused. So I put them in slightly unoriginal street clothes. I went mostly from memory and while I think I got Stein right, Jax looks a little 1950's "Aw Shucks!" to me. It seems like he only had the ear stud in one promotional image but I added it to try and counter that.

LOT: Rip Hunter: Master of Time

Legends of Tomorrow is easily my favorite of the DC/CW shows right now and Captain Rip Hunter is easily my favorite character. After finishing the season finale several weeks ago I decided to do some sketches.
I love Rip because he leads the team less through authority or charisma and more through skill... and the fact that he's the only one who knows how to fly the Timeship. Despite being a prickly, precise, and meticulous person, Rip is also surprising good at improvising and often ends up flying through time by the seat of his pants. As such I felt a sense of danger and frantic movement appropriate for the character.
His costume is great(and easy to draw). Despite being a member of what is essentially the Time Police, Rip doesn't wear a uniform and always struck me as having the skills and personality of a spy rather than a cop. That's why I love how non-descript his costume is while still retaining elements that say, travel, mystery, and adventure. Notably the trench coat(staple of a Wanderer type character) and the futuristic laser pistol based on an Old West style six-shooter.

Hero Diner #3

It was just a phase, okay?
This one is a little special because it's the first time I've inked a comic with my new tablet. I think it looks a lot cleaner and it should speed up the process quite a bit...once I get the hang of it.
